Public Forum, Peckham

The origin of this project lies in the identification of the section of Rye Lane between the viaducts as the social and physical centre of the site. A new city ensemble is proposed between the old Station façade to be revealed again and the industrial shed which is to be fronted with a new art factory. The new public forum will be unified by a ground plane of stone planks stitched into the refurbished and re-laid existing granite cobbles.

The public space between these two buildings is occupied by a low market hall with an asymmetrical situation within the space. The perimeter of this structure is composed of a repetitive alteration between door and wall – allowing it to be porous and open during the day but monolithic and secure during the night.
