Rousham Gardens, William Kent

Rousham typifies the romantic English Landscape Garden. A succession of carefully-composed spaces form a network of landscape rooms for the visitor to discover. Alternately vast, intimate, controlled, free, ornamented and practical, the spaces surprise and delight. They celebrate unexpected proximity. Rousham became a model for the landscape and buildings I was designing.
